The Society originated in 1921 as the RAF Officers’ Golf Association, with membership opened to all ranks in 1945. For many decades the Society has enjoyed a superb fixture list. We currently have 7 Meetings open to all members and guests and play for some impressive trophies including some on which are engraved the names of distinguished winners such as Henry Cotton and Guy Wolstenholme. We also play 17 matches against clubs and other societies on some of the finest courses in the country. We also have an annual Scottish Tour, based at Lossiemouth in Morayshire.
Some of our fixtures have a history which has been lost in the mists of time. Our secretary’s house was demolished by a bomb in World War II and with it were lost the records of our pre-war activities. But we know that fixtures against Moor Park GC, West Hill GC, Sonning GC and the Aero GS have been played for at least 60 years.
The only criteria for Full membership are current or past service in the RAF and a valid golf handicap. Affiliated membership is available to close relatives of Full members. The annual cost of membership is just £20 for Full and £5 for Affiliated members. Our members include all ranks from Air Specialist to Air Chief Marshal but we are all on first name terms – we have a deserved reputation for being a very friendly group.
